Shoes and Brews isn’t going to let a little thing like social distancing stop it from a good, old-fashioned community fun run.

The running retailer, based in Longmont, CO, which has always brought together the dual pastimes of running and enjoying a cold beer afterwards, is organizing its inaugural, “and hopefully only,” Shoes & Brews Run Together, Separate this weekend.

As of Friday there were more than 700 runners registered.

As a community-oriented run shop and brewery, the shutdowns have kept the store from the favorite part of its business - the people - the community - the comradery over a drink. So it thought, “How can we have that at a distance? How can we motivate our community to come together, while not being together? How can we keep S&B going strong?”

The answer is the Shoes & Brews Run Together, Separate, which consists of a 5K, 10K or half marathon.

Here's how it works:

From Friday, April 3, through Sunday, April 5, Shoes and Brews is challenging people to run or walk – 5K, 10K or half marathon – all in one, or over the three days on local trails, roads or around your house.

The $25 registration includes:

* A $25 Gift Card to Shoes & Brews, mailed directly to the runner. All gift cards will be mailed out on Monday, April 6.

* A limited-edition sticker — 1st Edition Run Together, Separate run. Runners just need to send in a picture or video of them getting those miles in and they will receive a free sticker from its partners at StickerGiant.

* The knowledge that they are supporting a small business, renewing their efforts to shop local and the whole-hearted gratitude of Shoes & Brews.

“As runners we are lucky that our gym is always open, any hour, any day of the week and all you need is your shoes!,” Shoes and Brews says on its website promoting the event. “It's a way to keep us motivated, keep us sane and get us connected as a community.

“Challenge yourself to get out and see the sun shining, feel the wind blowing, and keep your mind sharp. Know that others are out there, practicing self-distancing and getting those miles in with you. Let it inspire you that this is only temporary and that we will be back together for miles and high fives very soon.”
