The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed another retail victim as the Ultra Running Co. announced this week it has decided to permanently shut its South End location after four years. Ultra Running’s original location at Providence in Myers Park will remain open.

The Charlotte, NC, run specialty retailer’s decision was revealed in a social media post over the weekend: “The health and wellness of our staff and customers continues to be the driving force behind our efforts at #URC, and we’re incredibly disappointed not to see an opportunity to reopen #URCSouthEnd safely and effectively moving forward. Change happens, and it’s hitting close to home for our team this time.

“We have loved being a part of the community for the last few years, and appreciate your excitement and interest over the past two months over the possibility of the location opening up again post-Phase II shutdown. Sadly, that is not in the cards,” it states.

“Thank you to all the great folks who made #SouthEnd a home.

“We have loved being a part of the community for the last few years, and appreciate your excitement and interest over the past two months over the possibility of the location opening up again post-Phase II shutdown. Sadly, that is not in the cards. 110 West Boulevard has been a labor of love since 2016, and we have been excited to open the doors each and every day. We look forward to seeing you all and continuing that excitement in #MyersPark soon.”
